The World Health Organization (WHO) defines optimal health as "inclusive of physical, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual wellbeing."
The mission of Custom Health and Wellness is to respect health beliefs and cultural beliefs by supporting a person-centered and tiered approach to health care, using the least invasive methods as first-tier treatment in order to reduce the overuse and abuse of prescription medications, lessen high costs of chronic disease, and provide a sustainable health system-integrating BIOMEDICAL+TRADITIONAL HEALING+HOLISTIC
Our programs are designed to educate, build awareness and provide solutions which inspire positive change in our world.
We are solution-focused, part of the continuum of care and believe in treating the whole person through a CUSTOM(ized), compassionate and integrative approach.
We believe there are many paths for healing the mind, body and spirit. Through clinical research, patient education, advocacy, healing programs and true preventive health, our experts blend the best of conventional Western medicine with evidence-based complementary therapies and ancient healing practices to promote better health. We believe in creating a culture that promotes innovative, vision-forward thinking, collaboration, sustainability, and giving back.
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” World Health Organization
Lifestyle medicine is an evidence-based approach to preventing, treating and even reversing chronic diseases by replacing unhealthy behaviors with positive ones — such as eating healthy, being physically active, managing stress, practicing self-care, getting adequate sleep and having a strong support system.
CUSTOM HEALTH AND WELLNESS WORKING WITH PROVIDERS SPEAKING AT WHITE HOUSE OPIOID SUMMIT: Integrative Medicine's role in the crisis. White House Opioid Summit with the President, First Lady, Administration and experts. Cabinet focusing on: 1)Law Enforcement Interdiction 2)Treatment & Recovery 3)EDUCATION.
Two Years after my father died I found his wallet...Harvard ID, a piece of paper with a list of 17 medications...that hit me right between the eyes. None of my father's providers asked him about his lifestyle, nutrition, or what his health goals were.
My patients were asking me. They were coming to me for answers and I had nothing. I had to go on a journey to find something else, because this wasn't what I signed up for. I really wanted to make a difference and help people but what I was doing wasn't making a difference.
CUSTOM Health and Wellness will communicate only with well-intentioned and collaborative individuals with the goal of supporting one another with ongoing positive, relevant information, training, resources, and education to help health and wellness providers and communities implement education and evidence-based services that yield results.
“Systematically treating disease without assessing the patients lifestyle or offering guidance on how to change is irresponsible and bordering on neglect” -Dr. John Kelly President, American College of Lifestyle Medicine

One of our health providers speaking at the White House Opioid Summit. Many of the government agencies and some organizations like the CDC, FDA, VA, American College of Physicians, and the Joint Commission have suggested and/or required physicians to use alternative treatments as the first line of care in lieu of medications. Teaching Self-care is also important so people take an active role in their health and well-being. Contact to be part of the solution: https://www.CustomHealthandWellness.com/contact
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE OUR SOCIETY TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE RESEARCH SHOWING THAT SUBOPTIMAL NUTRITION IS CONTRIBUTING TO THE EPIDEMIC OF MENTAL ILLNESS? If a treatment is truly effective, than shouldn’t the rates of disorder and disabilities, as a direct consequence of that illness, be decreasing rather than increasing? The cost benefit alone make it impaired that our society pay attention to the wider benefits of this approach.

All the systems that make up the body are interconnected, confirming the need to treat the whole person, body, mind and spirit. The food we eat has an impact on every system in the body and dietary decisions relate to overall health. Our environment is profoundly different than that our our ancestors. Processing removes nutrients:Our supermarkets are full of convenient packaged foods that appeal to our taste buds, but compromise our nutrition. Because most of these foods' natural nutrients are removed in the refining process, we need to get them elsewhere. Increase in Exposure to Food and Environmental Toxins:Our Standard American Diet relies heavily on processed foods that include artificial color, additives, flavorings, and chemically-altered fats and sweeteners. These additives and chemically altered substances may be giving our bodies the wrong signals, instead of the information they need to function properly. Even "natural" foods have fewer nutrients:Our food is not the same as it was 20 years ago. Nutrients in the soil have been depleted and consequent decline in nutrient density of foods. Chemicals are increasingly used in raising both plants and animals, particularly on huge industrial farms that specialize in a few products. We often eat for convenience and speed, not health and pleasure: Our fast paced society can cause stress and prevent us from connecting with others over a meal.
Listen to what employees want out of a wellness program. When given the choice on wellness priorities, employees are much more likely to participate and hopefully, form lifelong healthy habits. A wellness program advances health in all aspects, physically, emotionally, and psychologically ~holistically caring for ourselves is the only path to true wellness. For employees, this translates into increased productivity, fewer absences, clearer thinking and greater success for the company as a whole. How can we help?
How well do we help people PREVENT (not manage) disease in the U.S.?
90/10 gap-90% goes into pharmaceuticals! Insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies are driving our healthcare. The system is broken. Do we have an ethical responsibility to do something? Of course we do!
The most common message in the medical field is that failed health and wellness comes with age, but we flip the script, by empowering individuals with knowledge to control their health and provide them with education through the integration of health modalities, resources, and a shared vision with an emphasis on true preventative healthcare.
